During the presentation, I am planning to illustrate the function of two newly developed applications IWalk, IWitness. These will be both involved in my research. In addition, I would like to show the option how to us the narrator’s testimonies for verifying political statements. I also prepared a short workshop (8 minutes) on the Critical Analysis with SOAPStone, which will be one of the methodological approaches used in my thesis as well. The digital storytelling is still bringing new technologies and my intention is to outline the holographic video recordings of Holocaust survivors. Last but not least, I want to present some particular advancements in the text quantitative analysis conducted in the Jewish community magazines (Kadima, Bulletin des communautes d’Israelites du Luxembourg etc.)
Jan Lotz
I want to show an online program called “ORBIS” (http://orbis.stanford.edu/) which is something like Google Maps for roman times. You can simulate trade/travel routes, time, costs with different parameters etc. More information about the program on Wednesday. I want to focus on the problems of the website (only the historical/practical aspects, not the technical ones) and why you shouldn’t use it or at least be very careful. This will also be part of my PhD, because what I’m doing is somewhat similar and I need to show why I’m not just using ORBIS. Second ORBIS is accepted by a lot of historians and I hope I can generate more attention for my work by criticising the program.
